Hide your tracks online

If you are worried about someone seeing the websites you have visited, there are a few simple steps you can do to help with this. Please be aware it is impossible to completely hide your tracks online but it is possible to cover your movements online by following the advice below.

This site includes a “Hide this Site” button on every page. If you click on this it will take you straight to the Google homepage but it will not clear your browsers ‘history’ or ‘cache’. To clear your browsers history you will need to do the following:

Find out which internet browser you are using, and look at the relevant advice below: 

Firefox

  1. click on the Firefox button and select History menu
  2. click Clear recent History
  3. select a time range from the drop down list
  4. click Clear Now

Alternatively

  1. click the Tools drop-down menu and select Delete Browsing History
  2. click each delete button in turn as required or click Delete All
  3. click Close to confirm

Google Chrome

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More and then Settings
  3. Click Privacy and security, then third-party cookies
  4. Turn Send a ‘Do Not Track’ request with your browsing traffic on or off. 

Microsoft Edge

  1. In Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
  2. Make sure Tracking prevention is set to On.
  3. Select the level of tracking prevention that’s right for you
